FriendSearch Gets Axed, Six More Dating Sites on Chopping Block

FriendSearch Gets Axed! compares dating sites by people, price and rating. So far, we have about 120 sites listed.

Today, we axed one of them.

While updating traffic and demographics data, we noticed that the Google PageRank of FriendSearch dropped drastically. We visited the site, noticed a few things that gave us pause and decided to delete it.

With six more sites on the chopping block, let’s take a closer look at what happened.

What Happened?

We added FriendSearch to our site on June 14th, 2008.

At the time, they had a respectable Google PageRank of 5/10.

Today, we noticed that their PR dropped to 0/10.

What caused the drop?

It would be impossible for us to know and irresponsible of us to speculate. Reasons for sudden drops in PR are as numerous as the variables Google uses to calculate PR.

We visited the site and noticed three things:

  1. The page title and the URL did not match.
  2. Most (if not all?) links pointed to a second (external) site.
  3. Both sites seemed to be nearly identical content on two different URLs (!).

That seemed odd. Odd enough, in fact, that we decided to delete the site from GiveYourHandaBreak.

There are at least six more sites on the chopping block for various reasons. Stay tuned for further details.
